When we purchased our first and second cattledogs, we never intended to breed them. However, after learning more about the breed, Brenda thought she might one day want to raise a litter of her own. That meant buying another dog that was more than “Pet Quality”.
In 2000, we purchased Max (CH SF Maxwell Smart) and the adventure began. Max’s first appearance in the Conformation Show Ring, was quite memorable. Brenda had never shown a dog before and really was not certain what needed to be done, other than “running around in a circle”. However, Max was awarded Reserve Winners Dog that day, despite Brenda’s naivety. When having a picture taken with the Judge, she was told that Max was a nice dog, but that both Brenda and Max needed to take some handling lessons.
Brenda took the judge’s advice and spent the summer months learning what needed to be done to show a dog to its full potential. Then in September, she and Max entered the ring again and this time he won his first Major points.
Brenda learned a lot about showing with Max, making several mistakes along the way. But in the end, her perseverance paid off. In 2003, Brenda was able to qualify Max for the Eukanuba Invitational. He was shown by his breeder and was awarded Best of Breed as well as a Group 4 in the Bred by Exhibitor Herding Group.
Shelby was our second show quality puppy to enter the Conformation ring. Brenda was hooked and has eventually shown multiple dogs to their AKC Championships.
Other venues we have done include Dock Diving, Barn Hunt, Farm Dog Certification, FastCat and Agility.
